We travel many paths as we each write our book of life, and we touch many lives as we navigate each chapter. Barbara’s book of life begins in Portland, where she was born. Her parents moved to the rural little town of Gervais when she was only 7 months old, and that’s the community in which she grew up. She graduated from Sacred Heart Grade School and Gervais Union High School. After high school, it was off to college…that chapter of life was a real awakening!!
The chapters of Barbara’s life have followed three career paths. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology & Audiology from the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!!), and applied her clinical training in the field of special education for the North Clackamas School District. She created screening, educational, and behavioral objective programs for students in grades K-12. Barb and her husband, Les, decided to purchase a small farm east of Woodburn, and that’s where they raised their family…two very wonderful and active sons. As a family, they raised registered Suffolk sheep, and were involved in many livestock shows and sales around the country.
Barb’s next career combined the fields of marketing, retail sales, and freelance commercial display. This career led her into an opportunity to be hired as the office manager for a busy and innovative veterinary practice, with quite the menagerie of small, large, and exotic animals.
After many years in office management, Barbara decided to embark on a career in real estate, and has been developing her career since 1994. Barb often says that it’s nice when you finally figure out what you want to do when you “grow up,” but she’s not sure that “growing up” is something to which we adults need to rigidly adhere. It’s great to just be a kid sometimes, and run on the beach with the wind in your hair, fly a kite, hug a puppy, make mud pies, ask questions, or even to say what’s really on your mind!!
Barb truly enjoys her work as a real estate broker, and currently is a member of Salem Association of Realtors, Oregon Association of Realtors, and National Associations of Realtors. She has received many awards over the years, including being a member of the Leading Edge Society with Prudential Real Estate Professionals, which means she has performed in the top 6 % of Prudential Real Estate affiliates nationwide. It was during the shared time at Prudential that she came to know and respect Brian & Nina White and their philosophy of life, and why she feels blessed to be associated with their company.
Barb is known in the industry for her attention to detail, negotiating skills, and tenacity on working on behalf of her clients. It is her goal to exceed your expectations. She often is heard telling clients that she’s old enough to be their mother (on occasion, it’s even been grandma), so she’ll be their “real estate Mom” to help navigate through the stressful and exciting process of purchasing or selling their home. Barb works with clients to stage their homes to help obtain the highest and best price in today’s real estate market.
Barb and Les worked together in real estate until his untimely passing in 2001. It’s with reflection, that Barb would like to offer encouragement to listen to that voice deep inside that beckons us to follow our dreams, no matter how old we grow. Let’s not forget that life should be lived with passion. We have only the precious gift of today…there is no guarantee that we’ll be given a tomorrow, so let’s embrace life’s gifts and opportunities as we continue to write new chapters in the book of our lives…
